George Matters is a documentary film that intertwines the many story lines that follow the 60-year arc of George Porter Jr.’s career as one of the most influential and lasting musicians to come out of New Orleans.
Narrated by George himself, and the people that have shared his journey, George Matters touches upon his initial experiences with music – from where he found his inspiration to why he picked up the bass and how he broke into the New Orleans scene. From there we learn of his work in local studios and relationships with Allen Toussaint and other influential producers. We learn how the original members of The Meters came together to create the groove that took them to the biggest stages around the world.
From recording sessions with Dr. John, Tori Amos, and Robert, to touring with Jimmy Buffet, David Byrne, Robbie Robertson and opening for the Rolling Stones, to becoming the Godfather of the modern Jam Band scene, George Porter Jr. has seen and experienced it all. Porter continues to not only be an in-demand performing artist, but an accomplished studio musician and producer.
George Matters is being produced in conjunction with Sixth Street Filmworks, The New Orleans Jazz Museum, Silverback Music and George Porter Jr.
